A writer can appeal to pathos in two actually very simple ways that most people don't even realize:
Having slow or somber music can cause listeners to begin to feel sad, therefore starting to have pity.
Another popular way is by telling a somber story (aka a sob story) to appeal to the emotions and humanity of the intended audience.

Désirée's obscure origin _____.
saw5 [17]

Answer:

B). Foreshadows the ambiguous end of her life.

Explanation:

The short story 'Desiree's baby' authored by Kate Chopin which is set in the pre-civil war era and emphasizes the racial tension between a couple regarding a baby. As per the question, Desiree's obscure origin(African ancestry) presages the ambiguous end of her life. The author through the story aims to describe the evils of racism that lead people to act in a morally corrupt manner and reflect the hollow perceptions of whites considering themselves to be superior. Desiree's enigmatic end is proof of this shallow and corrupt attitude of whites who prioritize race above the human-self. Thus, Desiree's obscure origin 'foreshadows the ambiguous end of her life'.

B. Wolves and moose have a predator-prey relationship. Wolves hunt and kill moose, which causes the population to decline. When there’s more wolves, more moose die. Less wolves, less moose die, so the population will rise. They rely on one another, the wolves keeping the moose’s population in check, and the moose serve as food to the wolves.
