The last country in the world to challenge the United States control of Oregon was Great Britain. Oregon was won in the War of 1812.
The results were so important for one main reason: the Revolutionary War freed the Americans from British rule. This meant that they had develop their own government system, and after having just rebelled against totalitarian rule in the form of King George III of England, the Americans set up a democracy so that the government of America could be held accountable by the people.
