Answer:

15

Step-by-step explanation:

What is average/arithmetic mean?

It means the "sum of the numbers" divided by the "number of numbers".

Let the two numbers be "x" & "y"

It says, average of 2 numbers is 12, so we can write:

\frac{x+y}{2}=12\\x+y=2*12\\x+y=24

Smaller number is 6 less than bigger number. Let's suppose x is the bigger one and y is the smaller one, so we can write:

x - 6 = y

Now we have 2 equations:

x + y = 24

x - 6 = y

Putting 2nd in 1st we get:

x + x - 6 = 24

Solving for x:

2x - 6 = 24

2x = 24 + 6

2x = 30

x = 30/2

x = 15

Now we know y = x - 6, so

y = 15 - 6 = 9

y = 9

The larger number is 15

Solve using the Quadratic Formula:
Advocard [28]

A. - 7x² + 7x + 1 + 8 = 0

- 7x² + 7x + 9 = 0

x = - b ± √b² - 4ac / 2a

= - 7 ± √7² - 4 (-7) (9) / 2 (-7)

= - 7 ± √49 + 252 / - 14

= - 7 ± √ 301 / - 14

x = - 7 + 17.349 / - 14 x = - 7 - 17.349 / - 14

= 10.349 / - 14 = - 24.349 / - 14

= - 0.739 = - 1.739

B. 8x² - 5x² + 6x + 1 = 0

3x² + 6x + 1 = 0

x = - b ± √b² - 4ac / 2a

= - (-5) ± √-5² - 4 (3) (1) / 2 (3)

= 5 ± √25 - 12 / 6

= 5 ± √ 13 / 6

x = 5 + 3.606 /6 x = - 5 - 3.606 / 6

= 8.606/6 = - 8.606/6

= 1.434. = - 1.434

Mary delivers 32 newspapers to her customers in 25 minutes. These deliveries represent 64% of her customers.
sveticcg [70]
<span>Ok. You would set up the problem like this: 32/x=64/100 and then cross multiply; 3200=64x; divide both sides by 64; x=50. Mary has 50 customers.</span>

Samir works in a department store selling clothing. He makes a guaranteed salary of $300 per week, but is paid a commision on to
SVEN [57.7K]

Answer:

$491.25   and   0.15xx + 300

Step-by-step explanation:

15%=0.15

$1275×0.15=$191.25 in sales

$191.25+$300=$491.25

He would make $491.25 a week in which he made 1275 in sales.

0.15xx + 300 = total earnings

He would make 0.15xx + 300 if he made xx dollars in sales
