Answer:

Option (3)

Explanation:

The earth is comprised of a series of alternate basin and range at many places. These are formed due to the extensional force exerted on the crust from both the sides. Due to this, the crust gets stretched and under the influence of gravity, the heavy block moves downward relative to the other along the fault plane. This type of fault where one block (Hanging wall) goes down relative to the other (Footwall) is generally called a normal fault. The nearby block on the adjacent side remains stable and forms a hill. When this occurs in series, it results in the formation of basin and range.

Thus, it can be considered that the earth's basin and range topography is a result of vertical movement that arises along a fault plane.

Thus, the correct answer is option (3).

Which statement accurately describes plate tectonics? a) Pieces of the lithosphere move quickly and constantly. b) The motion of
hjlf

Answer:

d) The lithosphere is broken into sections called plates.

Explanation:

Plate tectonics is the movement of the lithosphere and is responsible for such phenomena as volcanoes and earthquakes. The lithosphere is the exterior layer of the earth about a hundred kilometers thick. This layer is broken into large sized plates, about seven medium plates and numerous smaller plates.

These plates move a couple of inches every year from each other and are the cause of volcanoes and earthquakes.

How much warning time did residents of Sumatra have before the 2004 tsunami hit land?
Katarina [22]
Sad to say, the warning time that the residents of Sumatra had before the 2004 tsunami hit land was close from little to none. A rough estimation would around 15 - 30 minutes. They say that the primary cause would be that there wasn't any warning systems over the Indian Ocean at that time. Another thing, which is what most people who knew about it would point out as the real problem, is that there was no issuance of a warning in the first place. The quake was detected an hour or so before the tsunami occurred in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre located in Ewo, Hawaii. At that moment, the information was relayed to Australia and to the rest of the world. The question wasn't why the Centre didn't issue a warning, but why the whole world network of information didn't issue one. They say that other sophisticated data were available at that time and almost immediately since the tsunami was active.

Science notebook activity in this exploration, you will identify the prevailing winds and ocean currents that exist on earth, as
Serggg [28]

The Earth is known to have five prevailing wind zones. They are:

 • Polar easterlies is known to flow from polar high-pressure belt in the direction of the temperate low-pressure belts and it is said to blow from the east.
 • Westerlies moves from from the west toward the east.
 • Horse latitudes, found in the north and south and moves or flow toward the prevailing westerlies or equator.
 • Trade winds flows mainly from east to west that is north and south of the equator.
 • The doldrums starts at low pressure or weak pressure gradients, and moves in the direction of the trade wind of North and south.

Some of the examples of ocean Currents in the world are:

 • North Equatorial Current is known to be a westward wind-driven current
 • Kuroshio Current is known as north-flowing and also a warm ocean current .
 • North Pacific Current is known to flow from west-to-east .
 • Alaskan Current has its current flowing counterclockwise.
 • Counter Equatorial Current is known as an eastward flowing and also a wind-driven current
 • South Equatorial Current is known to flow from east-to-west. etc.

What is the link between wind and ocean currents?

The winds is known to be a weather condition that carries surface water with them which therefore forms currents.

Note that as these currents are said to flow westward, the Coriolis effect which is a force that emanates from the rotation of the Earth is said to lower their intensity which can make the currents to bend to the right, facing the north.
