Read this passage from "The Black Cat": "By the bye, gentlemen, this this is a very well constructed house." [In the rabid desir

e to say something easily, I scarcely knew what I uttered at all.] "I may say an excellently well constructed house. These walls — are you going, gentlemen?" What technique is Poe using in this passage to help develop the narrator's character?

Which sentence contains a properly punctuated and capitalized direct quotation?
nydimaria [60]
The sentence which contains a properly punctuate and capitalized direct quotation is C. "Watch how that hummingbird flits from flower to flower," said Diane. Quotation marks always go around the dialogue when writing a direct quote. Capitalization rules still apply much in the same way as they do in regular sentence writing, in that you must capitalize the first letter of the first word at the beginning of a sentence. Punctuation that separates the quote from the speaker must be included with the quotation marks to show that there is a separation.

What can be inferred from these lines describing the pardoner in Chaucer's prologue to The Canterbury Tales?
Marat540 [252]

The pardoner is the last pilgrim to be portrayed in the prologue. His estate belongs to the court of Rome. This gentle pardoner is thought to be worthy of respect;  "He had a scholarly look" and "He was an honest person." Nevertheless, his pretension not to care for riches and his being "an unethical man" oppose the positive idea created. The inference that can be made from the excerpt is that he was an unethical man.
