Historians estimate that during the American Revolution, about 500,000 people or between 15 and 20 percent of the colony's white population were loyalists.

While thirty thousand Americans who were bound by promises of the land after taking an oath of allegiance to the King, had to move to Ontario in the 1790s. Yet, other Loyalists around 80% -90% still choose to live in the United States and get citizenship status.
