Someone's preference in politics usually based on the value and principle that we have. If, a scientist somehow negatively displayed a certain aspect/behavior of politics, a lot of people will see that as an attack to their value/principle, which will lead to public attacks toward that scientist. Because of this, many scientists are cautious about this topic
