Desiderius Erasmus was a Christian humanist, philosopher, and writer considered as one of the greatest scholars of Renaissance, he lived from 1466 to 1536. Additionally, Erasmus influenced the Protestant Reformation as he questioned some of the church practices including the abuses of the church, the authorities of it, especially those that economic and other benefits and believed church needed to be reformed, ideas that he wrote in some of his books such as The Enchiridion in which he questions clergy education, sermons, and spiritual discipline; The Praise of Folly which was a satirical attack to superstitions and other traditions linked to the church or the Sileni Alcibiadis an essay that emphasizes the need of a reform. Thus, the writer, philosopher and Christian humanist that criticized church officials, especially those that had become wealthy and acquired other benefits (become worldly) was Desiderius Erasmus.
Du Bois was a doctoral student at Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, was the first African American to receive a Ph. D. from Harvard University (in 1895), and was awarded an honorary doctoral degree from Humboldt-Universität in 1958.
