Assuming that the aquarium is rectangular, the formula to work out the volume would be
V = L x H x D
Considering that 1 gallon = 231 inches³
Multiply both by 33.75 to get the total number of inches³ (volume)
231 x 33.75 = 7796.25 inches³

If you also want the depth, read on...

Also, there are 12 inches in one foot
Length = 2 x 12 = 24 inches
Height = 1.5 x 12 = 18 inches

Now we can fill in the information we know

7796.25 = 24 x 18 x D
To work out D, we divide the volume by the values we know
7796.25 / 18 = <span>433.125
433.125 / 24 = </span><span>18.046875 inches
</span>18.046875 / 12 = 1.50390625 feet
To the nearest 2d.p. ≈ 1.5 feet

An equilateral triangle with side length 7 cm is shown in the diagram, work out the area of the triangle.
ElenaW [278]
If a triangle has sides of 7 cm and it is an equilateral you can draw a line right down the middle to form two congruent triangles.

These smaller triangles have a hypotenuse of 7cm and a base of 3.5 cm (7/2)

To work out the height, use Pythagoras’ theorem.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where c is the hypotenuse and a and b are the other two sides

7^2 - 3.5^2 = 36.75

Square root answer

= 6.06 cm

That’s the height of the triangle

Area of a triangle is base x height divided by 2

So 7 x 6.06 = 42.43…

/2

= 21.2 cm^2 to one d.p

Hope this helped!

Instructions: Problem 1 ! Find the missing angle in the image below. Do not include spaces in your answers
sweet-ann [11.9K]

Answer:

40 degrees

Step-by-step explanation:

The 100 degree angle is supplementary to angle CED. This means CED will end up being 80 degrees. Since the angles in all triangles equate to 180 degrees 80 + 60 + angle D must equal 180 degrees. Therefore, angle D has to be 40 degrees.

How do I estimate the square root and round to the nearest integer?
Troyanec [42]

The square root of a number y is a number x such that x^2=y

So, if a number is a perfect square, its square root is an integer. For example, the square root of 25 is 5, because 5^2=25.

If a number is not a perfect square, its square root is not an integer, which means that it is an irrational number, included between two integers.

If you want to find these two integers, you need to find two (consecutive) integers such that the first is "not enough", whereas the second is "too much".

Here's an example, suppose we want to find the square root of 20. We try some integers:

\left.\begin{array}{cc}1^2 = 1 & \text{Not Enough}\\2^2 = 4 & \text{Not Enough}\\3^2 = 9 & \text{Not Enough}\\4^2 = 16 & \text{Not Enough}\\5^2 =25 & \text{Too Much}\end{array}\right.

So, when we square 4 is slightly less than 20, and when we square 5 is slightly more than 20. This means that there must exist a number between 4 and 5 that, when squared, is exactly 20.

So, for sure 4 < \sqrt{20} < 5

In order to round to the nearest integer, we consider that 4^2=16 was 4 units away from the goal (20), while 5^2=25 was 5 units away from the goal. So, 4^2 is nearest to the goal than 5^2, and so we round

\sqrt{20}\approx 4

For the record, we have

\sqrt{20} \approx 4.472135955\ldots

so our approximation was correct.
