Shaking this off with a gasp and a struggle, I uplifted myself upon the pillows, and, peering earnestly within the intense darkn

ess of the chamber, hearkened -- I know not why, except that an instinctive spirit prompted me -- to certain low and indefinite sounds which came, through the pauses of the storm, at long intervals, I knew not whence. Overpowered by an intense sentiment of horror, unaccountable yet unendurable, I threw on my clothes with haste.

Answer:

The word is "overpowered".

Explanation:

The untrustworthy narrator is the one who has his credibility compromised, either by lying or by presenting questionable sanity. The narrator of the excerpt shown in the question above is clearly questionable in sanity, because the word "Overpowered" shows how the narrator is unbalanced because of a sense of horror. Because of this imbalance, we cannot fully trust what the narrator says, so he is an unreliable narrator.

Why did talking to the boy in the robe shop bother Harry? Harry Potter
nataly862011 [7]
Harry doesn’t talk to muggles or any one that is lower than him in significance. In the book, Rowling clearly shows how important Harry is; he only hangs out with Ron Weasely so others will see him as kind and caring, just to up his reputation. But really, hes in it for Hermione ;)

Geniuses are not always pleasant people - quote by KA
Just because you are smart does not mean you have all the answers.  Just because you are smart, does not mean that you will be kind to others.  Smart people often lack common sense and social skills that allow them to mingle with regular old people.  They have their own way of thinking and they usually think their way is the right way - or the only way.

PRO:  Look into your own heart, discover what it is that gives you pain and then refuse, under any circumstance whatsoever, to inflict that pain on anybody else.

If everyone on the planet would just acknowledge their own personal pain and deal with that pain, then they would not pass that pain onto others.  IF they were mistreated, they often mistreat others.  Learned behaviors, are not necessarily good behaviors.
