Answer:

The Mayflower Compact set the precedent for the rest of colonial North America of the concept of self-governance.

The Mayflower Compact was a pact written by the Pilgrim Fathers during the trip aboard the Mayflower between Plymouth, England and the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts. It was signed by just under half of the settlers on November 11, 1620. This pact, an agreement between the settlers for the administration of the Plymouth Colony, is often referred to as the basis of the United States Constitution.

The Mayflower Compact was the first government act of the Plymouth Colony. It was enacted by the Pilgrim Fathers during the crossing of the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower. They sought the freedom to practice Christianity according to their own choice, this pact specified that on this land, new rules would be created and that it was necessary to adapt to survive.
