The correct answer is - D. Some early attempts at settlement succeeded and others failed.

The attempts of the English to settle in North America were not going as they wanted and planed. Some of the early settlements didn't managed to survive until the next boat with settlers comes, while others, even though survived, they were in terrible situations where people were suffering from malnutrition, diseases, and had big problems with the native populations.
