In this poem, Langston Hughes talks about a dream deferred, or postponed. He wonders what the eventual outcome of such a dream is. He also gives a possible result, which is that a dream might dry up like a raisin in the sun. The idea behind this statement is that a dream that is ignored might end up diminishing in strength, becoming insignificant and dying.
