The Land Act of 1820 helped Westerners because <em>A. A person could purchase 80 acres of land for $100 cash</em>. The Land Act of 1820 ended the possibility of purchasing the United States' public domain land on an installment system of four years. The land had to be purchased cash, but Congress reduced the minimum standard tract from 160 to 80 acres and reduced the minimum payment to $100.
