The differences between the way France and the United States governed after the revolutions are very clear. In the first place, the two revolutions are based on the ideas of the Enlightenment (civil rights, legal equality, freedom above all). This idea already breaks with the notion of absolutism or even monarchy. The criticism of this model is given by the concentration of power. The Republic becomes the ideal in both countries, since it represents, in the interpretation of the revolutionaries, a model different from that attached to the power given by the blood, now being characterized as a power by merit. The US Constitution guarantees, for example, in its basic principles, the right to free expression, which was not before when under English rule.
