1) let both have x ,
so putting in eqn ;

4x+0.50 = 9x-3
5x=2.50
x=0.50

therefore both have 50 p in the beginning !!

2) let the number be x

so in eqn;

(x+18)/2=5x
x+18=10x
9x=18
x=2

so the number must be 2 !!

if you have still any problem, comment !!

Answer:

Question 1= 70p; Question 2=2

Step-by-step explanation:

Question 1) Since Tom and Ellie have equal amount, let the amount be X (in Penny)

Tom multiplied his amount by 4= 4X, he then adds 50p = 4X + 50

Ellie multiplied hers by 9= 9X, she then subtracts €3, since we are working with Penny, we have to convert €3 to Penny, which is 300p. We have 9X - 300

Since the resulting amounts of Tom and Ellie are equal, we can say

4X + 50 = 9X - 300

We then collect like terms by moving like terms in opposite direction of the equation to have,

9X - 4X = 300 + 50

5X = 350

We divide both sides by the coefficient of X, which is 5

X = 70

Hence, the amount Tom and Ellie started with is 70p.

Question 2) Let the number Alex thinks of be X

He adds 18 = X + 18

He divides the result by 2= X + 18 / 2

Since he would have gotten the same answer if he multiplied X by 5, which is 5X

We can say, X+18/2 = 5X

We then cross multiply, 2 cross multiplies 5X to give 10X while 1 cross multiplies X + 18 to give X+18

We then have, X+18=10X

We collect like terms by moving X to the opposite side of the equation

We then have 18=10X-X

18=9X

Divide both sides by the coefficient of X, which is 9

X=2

Therefore, the number Alex thinks of is 2

The temperature, T, for an oven can be described by the equation T = 44m +67 for the
My name is Ann [436]

Answer:

T-intercept = 67

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

T = 44m + 67

Required

Calculate and interpret the t-intercept

To calculate the t-intercept, we simply set the number of minutes (m) to 0

i.e. substitute 0 for m in T = 44m + 67

T = 44 * 0 + 67

T = 0 + 67

T = 67

Hence, the T-intercept is 67

The interpretation is that the initial temperature when the oven is turned on is 67 degrees

Noah and Lin are each trying to solve the equation x² - 6x + 10 = 0. They know that the solutions to x² = - 1 are i and -i, but
Leviafan [203]

Answer:

Solving the equation x^2 - 6x + 10 = 0 we get x=3+i \ , \ x=3-i

Step-by-step explanation:

Noah's step to solve the equation x^2 - 6x + 10 = 0 are:

x^2 - 6x + 10 = 0\\x^2 - 6x = -10\\x^2 - 6x + 9 = -10 + 9\\(x-3)^2 = -1

The next step is to take square root on both sides because: \sqrt{x^2}=x

\sqrt{(x-3)^2}=\sqrt{-1}  \\x-3=\pm\sqrt{-1} \\x=\pm(\sqrt{-1})+3 \\

Now, we know that: \sqrt{-1}=i

x=\pm(i)+3\\x=3+i \ , \ x=3-i

So, Solving the equation x^2 - 6x + 10 = 0 we get x=3+i \ , \ x=3-i
