Fossils are the preserved remains, impression or traces of plants or animals that lived in the geologic past. Specimen more than 10,000 years old is usually considered as a fossil.

These fossils evidence can tell about the evolution of life as:

1. They show the existence of life in past as the oldest fossils are around 3.48 billion years.

2. They show how different life forms are related to each other.

3. Oldest rocks comprise of the fossils of the simplest organisms while complex organisms fossils are present in the newest rocks supporting the Darwinian view of evolution that complex organisms have evolved from the simple organism.

Thus, studies of fossils can tell about the evolution of life on Earth.
