My general description of such a person is someone, anyone who encourages and inspires others to appreciate the positive qualities of life, such as, good hygiene, health, gentleness, contentment, and safety. These qualities may seem dull or cliche to many people, but anyone who practices these qualities and appreciates these qualities does find life much more rewarding as opposed to so many people who destroy their life with addictions, negative attitudes, slovenliness, criminal activity, despair etc.
The two parts of the excerpt that shows the central character is devoutly religious and God-fearing are:
"The man therefore read it, and looking upon Evangelist very carefully, said, Whither must I fly?" This shows that the central character is willing to go the path that Evangelist advises him to, it's something that he feels he wants and must do.

This shows that the central character is willing to follow Evangelist's instruction because of both the character's name and where he is saying he should head.
