The unification was thorough fought by major European powers who feared a change in balance of power in the region.
 <span>Prussia fought with Denmark, Austria and France, which  also played significant roles in the unification of the German states. The states of Italy were under the auspices of Austrians, who would go to any length to avoid a unified Italy.</span>
