During the period of cultural revolution, Many people were sent to re-education camps as they were not seen as supportive of the communist ideology. During the period of early 1950s, China set up Loafer camps and later changed its name to re-education camps. The re-education in China was set up in the year 1955 and that also became the first official policy of the Chinese government. Mao made the declaration that intellectual people could not be trusted with respect to provide education to the people and because of that thousands of teachers and professors were sent to re-education camps and the literacy rate in China dropped significantly as only students who were politically correct according to Mao were made in-charge and around 17000 students who belonged to the urban areas of China were not sent to these re-education camps. During that period of time, the police were given the authority to arrest anyone who they thought did not have communist ideology and sent them to these re-education campsand all the property and wealth of that person was taken over by the government. People who were seen as non-supportive of the communist ideology in-charge to Re-Education camps.
