G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase,

or G6PD, which helps red blood cells (RBCs) function normally. G6PD deficiency is most common in African-American males. Many females are carriers. It is known that Africa and the Mediterranean basin are high-risk areas for the infectious disease malaria. Researchers have found evidence that the parasite that causes malaria does not survive well in G6PD-deficient cells. How can you explain this?
Natural selection favors G6PD deficiency as compared to malaria.

Genetic drift is responsible for greater occurrence of G6PD deficiency in these regions.

Somatic mutations lead to G6PD deficiency in malaria-inflicted regions.

Natural selection favors G6PD deficiency as compared to malaria

Individuals in which the G6PD deficiency is common live in areas where malaria is an epidemic problem. Natural selection, a process which selects traits favorable traits out of a species' gene pool, will favor the individuals with G6PD deficiency to survive as they will not be affected by malaria. Their immunity to malaria will help these individuals pass on their genes better, meaning the gene for G6PD will become common, as is the case.

Hemophilia is a disease that causes uncontrollable bleeding. If a father has it, all of his daughters will be carriers of the di
Svetllana [295]

Explanation:

Hemophilia is a disease that is characterized by an abnormal blood clotting process. There are many different proteins that are involved in the clotting process and a single mutation or change in one of them could result in serious effects. Hemophilia is characterized by an abnormal version of one of the many proteins involved in the clotting process, the proteins that are commonly affected are the coagulation factor 8 or 9 (VIII or IX). These abnormal proteins are caused by a mutation in the gene (within the DNA) that codifies for the production of each protein. In other words, a mutation in the part of the DNA, (gene F8) will lead to a dysfunctional coagulation factor VIII and a mutation in the gene F9 will lead to a dysfunctional coagulation factor IX. Importantly, these mutations could be inherited and could cause hemophilia. Therefore, an error in the DNA and subsequently, an error in the protein will cause hemophilia. Finally, it is important to mention that there are other types of hemophilia that are not caused by the above-mentioned mutations, such as acquired hemophilia.

How can two organisms have the same phenotype but different genotypes?
balu736 [363]

Two organisms have the same phenotype but different genotypes when One organism is purebred dominant, and the other organism is heterozygous. So, the correct option is B.

What do you mean by Genotype?

Genotype may be defined as the ultimate combination of those alleles which are selected for specific studies.

When an allele is dominant over others, its purebred dominant and heterozygous (hybrid) may have different genotypes but the same phenotype.

Therefore, the correct option for this question is B.
