Proofreading is the stage in which a writer or editor examines the text carefully in an attempt to detect all the mistakes and errors that he could have made in the raw text written, with the purpose of correcting them. When proofreading  a person can check the context, grammar, spelling, accuracy, style and correct or fix any of those aspects if necessary.
