First, the Catholic Church tried to stop the Protestant reformation by sending warnings and even putting them on trial. When this failed, the Catholic Church decided to set a Counter-Reformation that is called the Catholic Reformation. The Council of Trento was formed between 1545 to 1563, the council was very important because it clarified the doctrine that was contested by the Protestants and revitalized the Church by changing the life and discipline of the church, providing better education for priests and especially, took control of the financial abuses.
