What happened in Tiananmen Square was, there was a Massacre where there was a protest in the people's republic of China.

Basically, after the death of the Chairman of the Communist Party of China, Mao Zedong, thousands of students began massing day after day. They wanted more political freedom and democracy. However, since the government declined, they began the protest.

Following the protests of the students, the government took action by sending in armies and tanks to kill the students that were participating in the protest.
