How did the Tet Offensive affect perceptions of the Vietnam War within the United States?
mezya [45]
Americans grew critical of the war because the Viet Cong were viewed as remaining strong. The North Vietnamese Army together with the Vietcong launched a massive offensive on South Vietnam during the holiday of Tet.  Fighting erupted on various fronts including the capital of Saigon.  Even the U.S. Embassy breached by the enemy.  Though the Communists were driven out and suffered massive casualties, American public opinion turned against the war and it resulted into the withdrawal of U.S. troops from South Vietnam.  This led the North to conquer the South ending in a unified Vietnam under Communist rule for decades.

n200080 [17]

Washington set up the first U.S. Cabinet as a group of individuals he trusted to give him advice and interact with his Presidency.

The initial group included Attorney General Edmund Randolph, Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of War Henry Knox, and Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton.

The Executive Branch of the government was created to carry out and enforce federal laws.

George Washington understood the value of a checks and balances system which would prevent any one branch of the government from having too much power.
