When she made her final speech; Atticus knew that she wasn't telling the whole complete truth. Which reveals that she is more scared of her father than the law and that she rather lie to the jury than suffer the consequences.

Her reason for this is because her father was a cruel man that ran his home with an iron fist. This showing why Mayella is so unaccustomed to Atticus's kindness, and respectful words
