Many teens and young adults have personal music players, such as MP3s, that allow them to take their favorite music with them wh

erever they go. Such devices require earbuds, and users can often be seen with at least one earbud firmly in place, listening to music as they go about their daily business. Some critics of these music players, however, argue that users tend to be isolated in the world of their music. Users, these critics say, do not really pay attention to what is going on around them; and they behave rudely when they carry on conversations with others while wearing at least one earbud.
Assignment: Do personal music players such as MP3s isolate their users and hamper social interaction? Should such devices be set aside in some situations to promote social interaction and even safety? Plan and write a response in which you state your position and persuade readers to agree with you. Support your opinions with reasons and examples.

The assignment requires you to take a position and argue this position. It would be best if you do it by yourself, because I don't know what your position is.

But I can give you some tips. Supposed you agree with this statement. You could then start with an introduction of how listening to MP3s affect people: it gives a sign to the others that they should not talk to you (since you can't hear them), and makes you less attentive (usually when we walk around we also look around so that we're not bored, but listening to MP3 gives you something to do so you're not that bored. This also means that you are at a greater risk of having a car accident or walking into something.
These are all disadvantages of listening to MP3s and if one considers them important, one might decide not to listen to MP3s in public.

Summarize what Gurung's life was like BEFORE and AFTER arriving in the United States? Provide two quotes with your explanation.
Natali [406]

Answer:

Before arriving to the United States, Gurung's life was always in danger: "Many of us were tortured and imprisoned. We had no choice but to flee to Nepal to save our lives".

He was from Bhutan but he had to go to Nepali's refugee camps. After twenty years, he decided to move to the United States. In the US, he kept struggling, he couldn't find a job and he didn't speak the language: "But here in the United States, my community continues to struggle. We arrived in the U.S. when the economy was at its lowest point, so we struggle to find jobs. Many of us do not speak English, and lack of education makes it even more difficult for us to learn (...)".

However, Gurung explains that he now helps other refugees to have a successful transition between the place where they come from and the United States and he's very happy about it and about his family.

Explanation:

To complete this exercise, you have to read a text about what Til Gurung said in a Refugee Transitions talk, and then summarize what Gurung's life was like before and after arriving in the United States. In his talk, he explains a little bit about his life and how Refugee Transitions is filling a need in his community.

What is the tone of This Living Hand by John Keats?
bija089 [108]

Answer:

He is distraught, terrified really, and reaches out for contact. He is enraged and displays his hand to prove to you he exists—"see here it is." He converts the listener, the reader, from a formal "thou" to a more intimate "you." The sentence moves from the conditional future to the present tense.

Change active voice into passive
a.the yellow car ran over the cat
Daniel [21]

Answer: The cat was ran over by the yellow car.

Explanation:

When we use passive voice, we place focus on an object/person that experiences an action, instead of the object/person that performs the action (as in active voice). The object in the active sentence thus becomes the subject in the passive sentence.

The yellow car ran over the cat.

The cat was ran over by the yellow car.

As evident in this example, a passive construction consists of verb to be (was) + past participle (ran).
