The author used verbal irony. What he said was different from what he meant, as it obviously was far from the downpour he described.

Explanation:

Although the prediction was one of heavy rain, there was no heavy rain and no flooding. Even so, the commentator talked as if there was one knowing that there wasn't.

By definition, irony is <em>"the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect."</em>

Which statement shows the most effective use of dialogue? a. "John, can't you see that I am so mad at you?" b. "John, I am angry
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

C: John, the things you say make me mad at you!

Explanation:

The sentence <em>John, the things you say make me mad at you!</em>  shows the most effective use of a dialogue because the speaker expresses his or her anger with the focus on the action and not on  the person who performed it. This can be an invitation for a dialogue, opening a possibility to clarify any misunderstanding, and for apologizing.
