Answer:

At the age of 11 Washington lost his father and became the sole runner of the house. At 16, he joined a surveying part which was plotting land. Next year he became the official surveyor for Culpeper county. This later elaborated his interest in western landholding. This can also be seen in his vision of nation purchasing land in the west.
