Cloture--with a 2/3 majority Senate vote a filibuster can be ended.

A filibuster is a long speech meant to block the vote of a bill. Both sides of Congress are able to filibuster and was used regularly starting in the 1850s. However, as the House of Representatives grew, filibustering could prevent anything from getting accomplished in Congress. The Progressive Era set to reform many government procedures and the introduction of cloture by the Wilson administration created a way around a filibuster allowing for Congress to move forward with their business if 2/3 of the chamber voted to end the filibuster.

The Senate's check on a filibuster is known as a cloture. This is done by getting a vote of 3/5 of the house, approximately 60 votes. This is a rare thing to get due to number of the votes required. Rarely does one party actually have that much control.

Q: which of the following is NOT true of the compromise of 1877
Solnce55 [7]

Samuel Tilden won the 1876 presidential election after a recount

Explanation:

 • The 1877 compromise is unusual because it was not reached after an open debate in the US Congress. It was primarily made behind the scenes and there are hardly any written records. It emerged from a contentious presidential election that was, however, harsh with the old North vs. South problems, this time involving the last three southern states that still controlled Republican reconstruction governments.
 • The timing of the treaty was prompted by the presidential election of 1876 between Democrat Samuel B. Tilden, governor of New York, and Republican Rutherford B. Hayes, governor of Ohio.
 • When the votes were counted, Tilden led Hayes by one vote in the Electoral College. But Republicans accused Democrats of voting for fraud, saying they intimidated African-American voters in three southern states, Florida, Louisiana and South Carolina, and prevented them from voting, thereby defrauding Tilden's election surrender.

What cause the recession under Roosevelt admin
nika2105 [10]

Answer: Keynesian economists stated that the recession of 1937 was a result of a premature effort to curb government spending and balance the budget. Roosevelt had been cautious not to run large deficits. In 1937 he actually achieved a balanced budget. Therefore, he did not fully utilize deficit spending.
