Both a simile and a metaphor refer to someone or something. The difference is, a simile uses like or as whereas a metaphor is just a figure of speech. I hope this helps.

They are alike because they both compare items to each other.
Simile: uses "like" or "as"

Which revision best maintains an academic style throughout?
melisa1 [442]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

An academic style should be formal, respectful, and objective. This means that the revision should be written well with correct grammar and not written like it is to a friend. The letter should also be kind to the recipient, especially because a favor is being asked of them. Also, subjective opinions should be left out of the writing.

1) So the first answer is incorrect because it demands that the senator comes. This is disrespectful and not fit for the intended tone.

2) The second answer is also wrong because of the first sentence. It is informal. The writer should not "check and see" if they are free because it is a colloquial way of asking for someone's time.

3) Finally, the third answer is incorrect because the food is described subjectively and informally. "Vittles" and "to boot" are formal and show the author's opinion.

4) D is correct because it maintains the same academic style through the writing.
