A hyperbole is a figure of speech which denotes an exaggeration of ideas in order to make a statement and add emphasis. The difference between a hyperbole and a metaphor or simile is that, even though it also makes a comparison, hyperbole has a humorous effect caused by an overstatement. It is not possible for your stomach to melt you from the inside out. Still,  the idea of "melting yourself from the inside out" exaggerates the speaker's eager to eat something to add emphasis to the fact that he/she is actually starving.
