Answer: I do not know if this is a multiple choice question or not, but she says that because she thinks that the “horrid wallpaper” does not conform at all with the traditional rules of art, of good and perfect art.

Explanation: In this soul-stirring story, the narrator, who suffers from a nervous depression, is writing about the house that her husband has rented for the summer. She does not like the room that her husband has chosen for her, the nursery at the top of the house, particularly the wall paper. She describes it as “one of those sprawling flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin,” commenting on its horrendous, hideous, unreliable and infuriating color, and its confusing and torturing pattern. She is so obsessed with it that she even writes that it is as if the paper knew “what a vicious influence it had,” and gets “positively angry with the impertinence of it (she is here referring to a specific area, where she sees eyes and a broken neck) and the everlastingness.” Throughout the text she describes other areas of the house and its exterior, but inevitably she always returns to the wallpaper. At the end, she starts to believe that her health is improving because of the paper. She tears off the paper, assisted by the woman who has come out of it, like her (so she thinks), creeping, and with the hope that she is never put back in it.

Imagine that the value of the US dollar remains high compared to the Canadian dollar for many months. What effect will this most
ASHA 777 [7]

Answer:

The correct answer is:

It will decrease US exports to Canada (A)

Explanation:

when the value of a currency increases in relation to another, it means the people in the country with the lower valued currency will pay more in exchange for the other currency. This affects imports and exports also. Let me use the example below to explain this scenario:

if the exchange rate for 1 US dollars to Canadian dollars is 2, this means that every US dollar is equivalent to 2 Canadian dollars. If there is a trade on electronic equipment between a Canadian and a US entrepreneur, at an exchange rate of 2, and say one of the equipment costs 10 US dollars, the Canadian will have to pay 20 Canadian dollars (10 × 2) for each of the items. If the value of the US dollar increases to 5 US dollars for every Canadian dollar, and the cost of the equipment remains the same, the Canadian will now spend 50 Canadian dollars (10 × 5) for a piece of the same equipment. This will make the Canadian seek cheaper alternatives, hence the rate of export from the US will reduce because the Canadian buyers will for cheaper alternatives.

Gwar [14]

Answer:

The reading of First they came.... is really interesting due to the fact that it reminds me of the phrase - "someone else can do it"...or "someone really needs to pick up all that trash..."

The writings talk about how "I didn't speak up because I was not a communist, or a jew, or whomever. Finally, when they come for the author, there is no one to speak up for him, because he never spoke up for anyone else and they are all gone now.

Explanation:

Kind of like the ostrich sticking his head in the sand - if you do not see it, it did not happen. Reality is - it happened and you ignored it.

Vocabulary Excercise
Trava [24]

Answer:

penury (Chapter 1)

emaciated (Chapter 4)

adduced (Chapter 8)

Explanation:

I've chosen the three words above from the novel "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. After looking them up in a dictionary, I was able to define them as the following:

penury - oppressive lack of resources; extreme poverty.

emaciated - thin and weak due to lack of food or due to illness.

adduced - past form of adduce - to give reasons as to why you believe something to be true.

Now, let's write sentences with the same context as given in the text of the novel:

Original: [...] while the number of half-clothed children gathered about it spoke of penury in its worst shape.

New sentence: The penury that desolates the country is clearly noted in children's bare feet and bloated stomachs.

Original: My cheek had grown pale with study, and my person had become emaciated with confinement.

New sentence: Her once glowing skin was now emaciated after a whole month in the hospital.

Original: [...] and as her confusion had before been adduced as a proof of her guilt, she worked up her mind to an appearance of courage.

New sentence: My tears were adduced as proof of my feelings for the deceased young man, even though I denied knowing him at all.
