Nationalism and Communism have been in constant conflict throughout the decades in China. The peak of this conflict was reached in 1949 when Mao Zedong declared the creation of the People's Republic of China. This led to an all-out civil war between the Communist Party (CCP) and the Nationalist, or Kuomintang (KMT).

Since the arrival of Mao, Nationalism was suppressed by the Communist regime until it evolved into an ideology which is taken into account by Chinese rulers nowadays whenever they try to manage the country's affairs, as they recognize that there are some positive elements.
