Read the passage carefully. “Let’s have no more argument. I have chosen Mr. Baggins and that ought to be enough for all of you.

If I say he is a Burglar, a Burglar he is, or will be when the time comes. There is a lot more in him than you guess, and a deal more than he has any idea of himself. You may (possibly) all live to thank me yet.” Which best explains how an element of Tolkien's life influenced the theme revealed in this passage? His mother's knowledge of languages influenced the theme of song and dance as being vital to a happy life. His role as a professor influenced the theme of wisdom as being vital to a happy life. The Industrial Revolution influenced the theme of injustice and the importance of bravery. The events of World War I influenced the theme of finding untapped resources and potential within oneself.

The correct answer is d) The events of World War 1 influenced the theme of finding untapped resources and potential within oneself.

  • This element of Tolkien’s life influenced the theme in this passage. In the passage is clearly expressed that the dwarves do not trust Gandalf criteria to select the Burglar, and Gandalf immediately says, trusting his judgment, that he is the right Burglar. He believes that in times of war everyone has something to give, even a hidden skill that you deny having yourself. Gandalf criteria to select the Burglar bases in the fact that no one believes, including both enemies and allies, that a Burglar such as him is not expected. Also, the fact that he is so small makes him even more reliable for the task and that Smaug would not recognize his smell. That is the untapped resource and potential Gandalf saw in this particular hobbit.

Which excerpt from the article provides evidence that supports this claim
likoan [24]

Hello. This question is incomplete. The full question is:

Read the claim from Dan DeLuca's editorial "Dylan's Nobel Prize Settles Debate: Rock Lyrics Are Poetry."

Are rock lyrics poetry? The answer must be yes.

Which excerpt from the article provides evidence that supports this claim?

"The Swedish Academy's decision to honor Dylan set off an online debate."

"Salman Rushdie, a Nobel candidate himself, called Dylan ‘the brilliant inheritor of the bardic tradition.’"

"Dylan is of course enormously influential."

"The Nobel is given for a body of work."

Answer:

"Salman Rushdie, a Nobel candidate himself, called Dylan ‘the brilliant inheritor of the bardic tradition.’"

Explanation:

The excerpt selected above is the only one that supports the idea that the lyrics of rock music can and should be considered poetry, because it shows an influential individual who testifies that Dylan should be considered a great poet, capable of expressing feelings with music, as the bardic tradition states. With this, the author of the article offers strong support to his argument and allows the reader to remember the bardic tradition, which is able to end this discussion between music and poetry.
