<span>They all suffered from severe bouts of depression.Twain passed through a period of deep depression which began in 1896 when his daughter died of meningitis. Hemingway sank into depression as his literary friends began to die in the early 1940's. Plath was treated for depression but it reoccurred later in her life.</span>
