<em>The Bill of Rights</em> is the first ten Amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The Amendments are a collection of guarantees of individual rights and of limitations on federal and state government.

Some of the guaranteed civil rights and liberties to the individual are:  freedom of speech, press and religion, the right of a citizen to a due process of the law, the right to bear arms etc. All the right are specified carefully in each of the ten Amendments.

The Bill of Rights derives from the Magna Carta, the English Bill of Rights. It was ratified in 1791. The Bill was written by James Madison.
