Well yoda is old and very wise.  Luke is young and also a quick learner.  I think if you combined yoda's wiseness and luke's strength and youth, that would make thes best combination.

Well Yoda has his experience and teaching skills while Luke has the ability to keep going and going and going never to always make it past his mountains but without Yoda Luke is just another wanna be Jedi and with out Luke Yoda would still be in hiding
