The epic hero Odysseus fulfills the characteristics of an epic hero in many ways such as being wholesome, and showing courage as he goes along his epic journey. He shows superhuman strengths in many ways during his experiences, and tremendous courage. He is a very strong and great leader, and encounters and overcomes many great beasts. Odysseus also risks his life looking for immortal fame and for the better of others. For these reasons he is just about the ideal epic hero.
He is wholesome in the ways of sticking to his values. He never does what he morally thinks is wrong and also never treats any human, beast, or god with disrespect, even though they might not have done him right. Courage is what I believe marks Odysseus as an epic hero more than anything else. He shows it is every thing that he does and says. He never backs down from a fight or a task that he must complete. His skill in fighting and shooting the bow and arrow were quit remarkable, yet they had nothing on his ability to outwit people and monsters. No matter what he came across he could always be one step ahead of the next man. He kept his cool in all situations and thought things through before he took action.

He is on a long quest to get back home and faces many monsters such as the Cyclops that are a lot more ugly and evil than anyone in real life. He definitely has human weaknesses and godly traits, and the gods definitely interfere with his world of humanity.</span>
He worried about his crew safety and made sure they were all doing well constantly. Being a caring leader that can take control yet be caring is a great quality. He teaches us that returning is what matters, since family and friends are his motivation. Although he might seem cold when it comes to his mates dying and not grieving for too long, this shows a deep understanding and maturity in my opinion.
