ella [17]

Marcus Garvey was born in Jamaica and even tough he did not experience any racial segregation in his younger years, he saw first hand later in life how blacks were treated in Jamaica and other parts of the world.

Marcus Garvey was an accomplished writer and politician by the year 1910 in Jamaica, and after living and studying in England for a period of time, were he got most of his ideas, he came back to Jamaica and founded  the United Negro Improvement Association (UNIA). This association was a refection of Garvey´s ideas and belief. His main ideas were to unite the black race and to give all blacks an excellent education, which in terms created a strong economy were all blacks could depend on it. Furthermore, he advocated Christianity for all blacks.

The general public accepted his ideas strongly and joined the UNIA by the millions specially in the United States. The association attracted a strong working class, and people considered his ideas to be very refreshing because they were fraternal and called for blacks self-help.
