Answer:

Edwards' sermon for the most part is based on the wrath of God and the fear that all sinners should fear at the time of their death.

Explanation:

In order to find a way for the faithful to come to church, Edward tries to scare them through his sermon. He wants to show that they are practically very sentenced if they do not repent of their sins and return to the church to try to obtain God's mercy. It is not just enough to be a good person. That would be useless if they don't go to church.

Let's look at some of the following quotes from his sermon that justify this answer:

  • <em>"Dam-nation don’t slumber, the Pit is prepared, the Fire is made ready, the Furnace is now hot, ready to receive them, the Flames do now rage and glow" </em>
  • <em>"Natural Men’s Prudence and Care to preserve their own Lives, or the Care of others to preserve them, don’t secure‘ em a Moment. " </em>
  • <em>"'Tis everlasting Wrath. It would be dreadful to suffer this Fierceness and Wrath of Almighty God one Moment; but you must suffer it to all Eternity: there will be no End to this exquisite horrible Misery ..."</em>
