How did the Civil War change from a limited war to preserve the Union into a ""total war"" to abolish slavery?

At the beginning of the war, the main purpose that the North had was to preserve the Union. This was threatened due to the decision of the South to secede from the Union. This means that the war was mostly a reaction to the Confederacy, and it had one main purpose.

This, however, changed as the war progressed. The preservation of the Union remained an important objective, but slavery began to gain more prominence. This was particularly true once the North believed victory to be possible. The war changed from objecting the creation of the Confederacy to objecting the way of life in the South. Moreover, it became clear that as long as slavery continued to exist, it would be impossible to completely restore peace and unity to the nation. Therefore, in later years, the Civil War became a total war with the purpose of abolishing slavery.

What was the result of the First Crusade?
katrin2010 [14]

The First Crusade is argueably the only successful crusade (though I would argue the Second Crusade was also successful) as it caught the Muslim defenders off guard, and not only was able to retake Jerusalem and place it under Christian rule, but also to open up a safe travel route for Christian Pilgrims. However, soon the Muslims were able to retake Jerusalem, which led to the Second Crusade occurring.

what was the main failure of the articles of confederation that eventually led to the US Constitution
PIT_PIT [208]
The main failure of the Articles of Confederation was that it gave too much power to the states, basically the states were all divided into their own governments. The national government have too little power and couldn't properly control the states. The US Constitution was created to balance out the powers between state and national government.

A whiskey tax imposed by Congress in 1791 was the reason for the Whiskey Rebellion. When the United States adopted the Constitution in 1788, the federal government and the state governments still owed debts from the American Revolution (1775–83).
