The correct answer is option (D) By causing movement of the organism.

The unicellular organisms use cilia, flagella or a pseudopod for the purpose of movement and locomotion in aquatic environment. It helps the organism to move from one place to another thereby also escaping from the predators and contributing in its survival. They create water currents in the aquatic environment and move from from place to another in a water body. Flagella and cilia prduce swimming movement and pseudopods produce sliding or amoeboid movements in water. Though flagella and cilia are involved in sensory actions, pseudopods are typically involved in movement and capturing the food.

The correct answer is d. By causing movement of the organism.

Cilia, flagella and pseudopodia are structures used for movement and/or getting food. Cilia and flagella are very similar  in structure with the difference in their length (cilia-short flagella-long and how many of them are found on cells (cells  usually have hundreds of cilia while cells with flagella usually only have one or two of them). Pseudopodia is a cytoplasmic extension with the same function as cilia and flagella.

The top layer of the brain, responsible for higher-level mental processes, is __________.
romanna [79]

The top layer of the brain, responsible for higher-level mental processes, is the neocortex because the neocortex comprises the largest part of the cerebral cortex, which makes up approximately half of the volume of the human brain. It is responsible for the neuronal computations of awareness, thought, perception, and episodic memory.

Therefore, The neocortex is the top layer of the complex brain that commands higher functions related to the mental processes such as cognition, sensory perception, and emotion. Although the neocortex consists of neuronal cell bodies or grey matter and unmyelinated fibers that surround the deeper white matter in the cerebrum, that helps for higher-level mental processes.
