It eventually failed because he didn't know that their allies the French, had signed the treaty of paris that meant they withdrew from all their land and gave it to the british, and quit the war. Without the French it was impossible to beat the british

The characteristics of both revolutions were wars and loss of life

The revolutions both ended when the people got what they wanted, freedom and autonomy.
