A Serbian nationalist from the Black Hand group assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife, Sophie. In response, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. This event marked the start of World War I.

However, once Lincoln made the war also focused on slavery, it would not have looked good for England to openly support the Confederacy any more.

America got recognition of being a sovereign nation and the government and over all nation gained a better reputation. America became allies with Canada. It also led to the White House being white because it was burned to a black color.
