Answer:

Chagnon experienced a culture shock at the sight of the customs and social environment that the Yanomamo tribe of South America practiced and lived in.

Explanation:

 • The extremely orthodox and bewildering practices that were followed by the people of the Yanomamo tribe disturbed anthropologist Chagnon.
 • The conflicts among themselves and their habit of attacking each other was one reason that suffered a culture shock.
 • He recorded the practices and the social environment of the tribe to be the strangest that he had ever experienced with any other tribe that he had come across.

Oxana [17]

I was at a boys' scouts camp once where I had to endure a leader I dislike very much. We were a group of 12-year-old boys and we did not know one another before, therefore the start was not easy and some of the boys were very timid. The leader, a 20-year-old college student, Adam, was very dismissive of our needs and he laughed many of them off. Instead of making us welcome at camp, he made us insecure and unwelcome.

One boy complained about the food (he was a vegetarian), and Adam said that's a stupid approach to food as all humans need to eat meat. He also kept asking us stupid questions about the girls, our sexual experiences with them and if somebody among us was homosexual.

In retrospect, I think Adam was unfit as a leader for a group of adolescence boys and should have been fired immediately. He did not posses any qualities of a good leader, in this case understanding of our needs, a clear direction in his approach to us or a kind manner. He could have made us welcome and secure at camp, a place foreign to many of us. It was the worst camp experience I ever had in my youth.

Scilla [17]

Answer:

In order to prevent the former slaves from voting the former slave owners used a variety of means.

In many southern states like South Carolina the former slaves outnumbered the white population. This resulted in black republicans being elected to congress. To prevent themselves from being outvoted means were devised to prevent blacks from voting.

One means was the poll tax. A small fee was required to be able to vote. Many former slaves were sharecropping. They received a credit from local stores based on the harvest. These share cropper did not receive any cash and were unable to pay the poll tax.

Another means was a literacy test. In many southern states it was against the law to teach slaves how to read. After the Civil War educational opportunities for former slaves were very limited.

By requiring a potential voter to pass a literacy test made it difficult for many illiterate blacks to be able to vote.

The final effort was to require proof of citizenship by asking for proof that a person's grandparents had been US citizens. As slaves the blacks had been denied citizenship. It was impossible for most exslaves to prove citizenship.

All of these means were successful in preventing blacks from voting and the after reconstruction the white elite were able to regain politcal power.

How was the social structure in latin america similar to that of pre revolutioary France? how are they different?
Vlad [161]

Answer:

Explanation:

Social structure in both Latin America before the wars for Independence and France before the French revolution was characterized by rich ruling minority and poor subjugated majority. The Catholic Church represented by the Clergy occupied the top position in both Latin America, followed by nobles in France and Peninsulars in Latin America. The poor minority in these regions was heavily taxed and mistreated which lead to revolting against the ruling higher classes.

Meanwhile, the key difference between social structures in Latin America and France was laying in the fact that in Latin America it was heavily marked by ethnicity, while in France it was not.

For example, in major parts of Latin America, Peninsulars were the pure-blood noble Spaniards that came from Spain to rule over Spanish colonies (corresponding to French nobles). On the bottom of Latin American social structure were Mulatto (mix of white an black blood), Mestizos (mix of white and Indigenous American blood) and ultimately African slaves.
