In The Metamorphosis, Kafka shows us how genres can overlap, making fiction seem like a more ( Versatile, concrete, psychologica

l, or allegorical ) form of writing than it might otherwise be. While the story is ( historical, scientific, realistic, or modernist )in its character depictions, it’s based on the ( classical, fatalistic, modernistic, or surrealistic ) event of a man changing into an insect. Gregor’s transformation into an insect is also (realistic, allegorical, historical, or modernist ) , since it serves to symbolize the larger themes of the story, such as isolation and alienation.

In The Metamorphosis, Kafka shows us how genres can overlap, making fiction seem like a more versatile form of writing than it might otherwise be. While the story is realistic in its character depictions, it’s based on the surrealistic event of a man changing into an insect. Gregor’s transformation into an insect is also allegorical, since it serves to symbolize the larger themes of the story, such as isolation and alienation.

It is versatile since it covers so many elements. That it is scientific since he turns from a man to an insect.  Then it is surrealistic because it is something that happens out of the ordinary.  It also allegorical since it tackles themes of alienation and isolation.
