When M.C. Escher had enrolled School for Architecture and Decorative Arts in Haarlem, he was encouraged by his graphic teacher Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita to pursue graphic arts as he had shown his drawings and linoleum cuts. He then traveled after finishing school to draw and sketch various arts he would be making when he returned home.
