We can represent each company's graph by the following equations

V = (0.04)*H...............(Company P)

V = (0.06)*H...............(Company S)

(V represents the vacation hours and H the hours worked)

If both work 2080 hours

V1 = (0.04)*(2080) = 83.2 vacation hours..............(Company P)

V2 = (0.06)*(2080) = 124.8 vacation hours ..............(Company S)

124.8 - 83.2 = 41.6 hours

The friend at company S will have about 42 more vacation hours that the friend at company P

You are running a concession stand at a basketball game. You are selling hotdogs and sodas. Each hotdog cost $1.50 and each soda
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Answer:

35 hotdogs

Step-by-step explanation:

You are running a concession stand at a basketball game. You are selling hotdogs and sodas.

Let the number of hot dogs be represented by x

The number of soda be represented by y

You sold a total of 87 hotdogs and sodas combined

x + y = 87

x = 87 - y

Each hotdog cost $1.50 and each soda cost $0.50. At the end of the night you made a total of $78.50.

Hence we have the equation:

$1.50 × x + $0.50 × y = $78.50

1.50x + 0.50y = 78.50

Substitute 87 - y for x

1.50(87 - y) + 0.50y = 78.50

130.5 - 1.50y + 0.50y = 78.50

Collect like terms

- 1.50y + 0.50y = 78.50 - 130.50

-1.00y = -52

y = -52/-1

y = 52 sodas

How many hotdogs did you sell?

Using the equation:

x = 87 - y

x = 87 - 52

x = 35 hotdogs

Hence, you sold 35 hotdogs

What equation results when you cross - multiply 17/d = 51/21
nekit [7.7K]

Answer:

 51d=357\\\\d=\frac{357}{51} \\\\d=7

Step-by-step explanation:

A proportion is an equation that defines that two ratios are equal.  When the terms of a proportion are cross multiplied, the cross products are equal.  Cross multiplication is the multiplication of the numerator of the first ratio by the denominator of the second ratio and the multiplication of the denominator of the first ratio by the numerator of the second ratio:

\frac{a}{b} =\frac{c}{d} \rightarrow ad=bc

Therefore:

\frac{17}{d} =\frac{51}{21} \\\\17*21=d*51\\\\357=51d\\\\Solving\hspace{3} for\hspace{3} d\\\\d=\frac{357}{51} \\\\d=7

In 2002, Tim was twice as old as Sue. In 1997 the sum of their ages was 32. In what year will Sue's age be three-fourths Tim's a
xxMikexx [17]

Answer:

Year 2030.

Step-by-step explanation

In 1997, Let Tim's age = <em>X</em> years

In 1997, Let Sue's age = <em>Y</em> years

After 5 years in 2002, Tim's age = (<em>X+ 5) </em>years

After 5 years in 2002, Sue's age = <em>(Y + 5)</em> years

Now, According to question,

<em>X </em>+ <em>Y</em> = 32    (sum of their ages) .......(1)

<em>Y </em>= 32 -<em> X</em>

(X + 5) = 2 (Y + 5) .......(2)

Substituting the value of <em>Y</em> in (2)

<em>X </em>+ 5 = 2 (32 - <em>X </em>+ 5)

<em>X </em>+ 5 = 2 (37 - <em>X </em>)

<em>X </em>+ 5 = 74 - 2<em>X </em>

3<em>X </em>=<em> </em>69

<em>X </em>= 69/3 = 23

Now ∵<em> Y</em> = 32 - <em>X  </em>and<em> X = </em>23

∴ <em>Y</em> = 32 - 23 = 9

So, In 1997, Tim's age = 23 years and Sue's age = 9 years.

Let the year in which Sue's age will be three-fourth times of Tim's age be t.

Sue's age after<em> t </em>years = (9 +<em> t) </em>years.

Tim's age after<em> t</em> years = (23 + <em>t</em>) years

According to question,

(9 + t) = \frac{3}{4} \times(23 + t)

4 (9 + t) = 3 (23 + t)

36 + 4t = 69 + 3t

<em>4t - 3t = 69 - 36</em>

<em>t = 33</em>

The Year in which Sue's age will be three-fourth times of Tim's age is:

= (1997 + 33) = 2030.
