Answer:

Charles cut 38 roses

Step-by-step explanation:

Mr Charles cut fresh roses from his garden and gave 10 roses to his neighbor.

The he gave half of what was left to his niece . He later kept the remaining 14 roses . The number of roses he initially cut can be computed as follows

let

Number of roses he cut = a

He gave 10 roses to his neighbor , he is left with a - 10 .

Then he gave half of what is left to his niece which is 1/2(a - 10)

Finally, he is only left with 14 roses

To know the number of rose he cut we have to minus the ones he gave out from the one he cut (a) equals to the remaining rose with him.

a - 10 - 1/2(a - 10) = 14

a - 10 - a/2 + 5 = 14

a/2 - 5 = 14

a/2 = 14 + 5

a/2 = 19

multiply both sides by 2

a  = 38

Charles cut 38 roses

He cut 38 roses. If you multiply the amount he had left by two you will get 28 because he gave half to his niece. Add the 10 from the neighbor and get 38.

The perimeter of a rectangle is 68 ft.
inessss [21]
Let the length be 9x and the width = 8x
Perimeter = 2(l + w) = 2(9x + 8x) = 2(17x) = 34x = 68
x = 68/34 = 2
9x = 9(2) = 18 ft
8x = 8(2) = 16 ft
Therefore, dimensions are 18 ft by 16ft

A rectangular pool is to be built on a lot that measures 20 m by 12 m. A wooden deck of uniform width, equal to the area of the
frutty [35]

The length and breadth(width) of the pool are

l\approx15.7m\text{ and }b\approx7.7m

Let

l=\text{length of the side of the pool}\\b=\text{breadth of the pool side}\\w=\text{the width of the strip of deck surrounding the pool}

From the question, we can build the following relationships

l+2w=20\\b+2w=12

subtracting to eliminate w (we do not even need it!)

l-b=8\\b=l-8

we can also build another relationship from the question. Since the area of the strip equals the area of the pool:

lb+lb=2lb=20\times 12\\lb=120

We have two unknowns, l and b. Eliminate b

lb=120\\l(l-8)=120\\l^2-8l-120=0

If we solve the quadratic equation for l, we get

l=4+2\sqrt{34}\approx 15.7m

and

b=l-8\\b=(4+2\sqrt{34})-8\\b=2\sqrt{34}-4\approx7.7m

The length and breadth(width) of the pool are

l\approx15.7m\text{ and }b\approx7.7m
