Answer:

Charles cut 38 roses

Step-by-step explanation:

Mr Charles cut fresh roses from his garden and gave 10 roses to his neighbor.

The he gave half of what was left to his niece . He later kept the remaining 14 roses . The number of roses he initially cut can be computed as follows

let

Number of roses he cut = a

He gave 10 roses to his neighbor , he is left with a - 10 .

Then he gave half of what is left to his niece which is 1/2(a - 10)

Finally, he is only left with 14 roses

To know the number of rose he cut we have to minus the ones he gave out from the one he cut (a) equals to the remaining rose with him.

a - 10 - 1/2(a - 10) = 14

a - 10 - a/2 + 5 = 14

a/2 - 5 = 14

a/2 = 14 + 5

a/2 = 19

multiply both sides by 2

a  = 38

Charles cut 38 roses

He cut 38 roses. If you multiply the amount he had left by two you will get 28 because he gave half to his niece. Add the 10 from the neighbor and get 38.

What is the equation of a line with a slope of 7 and a point (1, 8) on the line?
Helen [10]

Answer:

y=7x+1

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

The equation of the line into slope intercept form is equal to

y=mx+b

where

m is the slope

b is the y-intercept

In this problem we have

m=7

point(1,8)

substitute and solve for b

8=7(1)+b

8=7+b

b=8-7=1

The equation of the line is equal to

y=7x+1

What is the equation that represents the sequence in this problem ? Find the price after the 8th month
AVprozaik [17]

ANSWER

\begin{gathered} a_n=ar^{n\text{ - 1}} \\ a_8\text{ = \$38.26} \end{gathered}

EXPLANATION

The problem represents a geometric progression.

The general form of a geometric sequence is:

a_n=ar^{n\text{ - 1}}

where a = first term

r = common ratio

The first term from the table is the first price (for the first month). That is $80.00

To find the common ratio, we divide a term by its preceeding term.

Let us divide the price of the second month from the first.

We have:

\begin{gathered} r\text{ = }\frac{72}{80} \\ r\text{ = 0.9} \end{gathered}

The price after the 8th month is the value of a(n) when n = 8

So, we have that:

\begin{gathered} a_8\text{ = 80 }\cdot0.9^{(8\text{ - 1)}} \\ a_8\text{ = 80 }\cdot0.9^7 \\ a_8\text{ = \$38.26} \end{gathered}
